Good morning! Today is our last day and we will all be working to complete our projects. I have forgotten what I have told you. So forgive me if this is a repeat . We have been broken into teams this week. Each of our youth have been assigned to a crew with a 4-6 youth they didn't know and assigned to a crew leader they didn't know ( mike and I are crew leaders) and each day we work at our work sites-- the residences of the poor and elderly and disabled. We have painted and built handicap ramps and done other similar projects. They all have to be completed today. That means that each youth has met 5 crew members from all over the country. In the evenings during free time they meet each others crew members and they have met dozens of kids from all over the country.
Yesterday our youth each took two stained glass crosses made by the Linn Grove stain glass ministry to their work site. One was for the person living their. The other was given to their crew leader. They were very excited to do that. Off to breakfast and then off to worship and then off to work.
Thanks for your prayers!
Greetings from the youth mission trip!
What our kids did NOT do this week:
They did not watch tv- none zero zip
They did not whine despite horrible heat
They did not get dehydrated (see above)
What our kids DID:
Worked very hard--they come home exhausted
Got to know one another better--even the quietest opened up
Met oddles of kids. As I write this Evan is in the cafeteria playing cards with Sam from the Quad cities.
Listened carefully in worship
Made us all proud.
Our scripture for the week is from Rev 21. Look, I am making all things new. We are really witnessing that
in new friends, new experiences, new ways of seeing ourselves and new ways of encountering Christ.
Thanks for praying for us.
PS tonight for a treat we are going to Walmart. They are that desperate for civilization!
Our kids are fantastic. They are working hard-- even in this heat. They are drinking lots of water--ok pop-- but they are staying hydrated. It was 104 here today. Tomorrow we are supposed to have a cool 99. We are painting houses and building fences and meeting lots of people. Our scripture for the week is from revelation 21 look I am making all things new. And we are thinking and praying about what is being made new in us.
We had this afternoon off and we went to the movies. Sorry if I have corrupted your kids but we went to the Batman movie. At least it was cool in the theater.
Oops! It's just about lights out! Good night and keep up the prayers. Love from your mission team.
Hi everyone we are working hard. Everyone is tolerating the heat well. Tacos and strawberry short cake for supper. Worship at 7:30, lights out at 11. We get at up 6:45 to the sound of the PA system saying
"wakey-wakey work camp." and then a weather report and a fun fact. Breakfast is at 7, worship at 8 and we are at worksites by 9 and we work!
Thanks for praying for us!
Today Noah said he had never prayed out loud before a group but last night he did!
Its horrible hot here, but we are doing all right.
Hello from camp! This is Work Camp. We work all day and have camp fun the rest of the time. The kids are doing fine and tolerating the heat well. There are so many kids here. They are having fun meeting them.
We have divided up in work crews. And each student has a leadership job--something they are responsible for. Ask them and they will tell you their job.
We sleep 11 to a room--crowded but all right. (they will appreciate their own rooms and your cooking!). My crew and I are working in the home of an older lady named Martha. She sat right down on the floor and shared devotions with us this afternoon. Very nice lady. We are painting the exterior of her mobile home. Keep up the prayers and we will see you soon.
